Seasonal Support: Grief and the Holidays

Moving through the holidays after the death of a loved one can be challenging. Just thinking about facing the holidays may feel overwhelming. There are so many questions that come to mind as the season approaches.

Do I pretend nothing has happened and keep the traditions?
Do I hide and hope no one notices that I am not doing the holidays this year?
Do I do something completely different, changing scenery?

The Whatcom Hospice Bereavement Services team is offering a special group session, focusing on finding your way through the holidays. This program is open to all in our community at no cost.

We invite you to join us on the date that works best for you:

  • Thursday, November 2nd, 2:00—3:30 pm in Bellingham
  • Thursday, November 30th, 1:00—2:30 pm in Blaine
  • Friday, December 8th, 2:00—3:30 pm in Lynden

Registration is required. To register, please contact Bereavement Services at 360-733-5877 or WhatcomHospiceGrief@peacehealth.org.

Holiday Grief Support for Children and Teens

It can be difficult to know how to support the grief needs of all family members, including our youngest grievers. We want to offer you support as you navigate this season.

Please reach out to our Bereavement team if you would like:

  • Ways to navigate the challenges of supporting your children during the holidays
  • Ideas of how to honor and remember those who have died, while creating new holiday traditions
  • A guide created by the National Alliance of Children’s Grief with ideas of how to support grieving children, teens, and families during this season

To contact Lulu Verneuil, Bereavement Counselor, please call 360-603-8831 or contact us at WhatcomHospiceGrief@peacehealth.org.
